UNC places Lombardi on Paid Leave

On Monday morning, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill revealed that the general manager of its football program is currently on paid leave.

In a statement via email, the university announced, "Michael Lombardi, general manager for the Carolina football program, is on paid administrative leave, effective immediately."

No further details were shared, and the university emphasized that due to the nature of the personnel issue, no one at UNC is permitted to comment on it.

Lombardi joined Belichick at UNC in December 2024, marking a reunion with the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach. He previously worked alongside Belichick with the New England Patriots from 2014 to 2016, and earlier with the Cleveland Browns starting in 1987.

Throughout his first season at Carolina, Lombardi has served as one of Belichick's key advisors.

We will continue to provide updates on this story.
